Day 2 -- Our driver picked us up at 8:10 a.m. and we headed to Peking University. We were greeted by three landscape architecture students at the University’s east gate. They took us on a tour of the campus, which is very picturesque! There is a large lake, traditional structures, and modern architecture all seamlessly blended together.

After about a two-hour walk we were treated to an amazing lunch. There must have been 15 different dishes! Way more food that we could have possibly eaten, but amazing nonetheless! Hands down our favorite dish was cloud ear mushrooms in some sort of ginger soy sauce -- delicious!

Lunch!

After lunch we took a tour of their design studios. Quite different that Seaton Hall, as each student essentially has a cubicle. We asked if they ever draw by hand and they said NO!!! It appears they do a lot of larger landscape planning type of projects. Lots of GIS maps on the walls. Turenscape (the landscape architecture firm) is located on the same floor of the building. There is tight association between the firm and the University. We found Becca! She was in good spirits and able to join us for dinner. The Peking students gave us a short presentation about one of their projects and the K-State students showed them a short presentation all about Kansas, K-State, APDesign, and some of the projects they had recently worked on. We had an exchange of questions and an interesting discussion about some of the differences and similarities in the programs.

At 5 p.m. our driver picked us up again, with Becca in tow, and we went to visit the K-State China office (they do recruiting here.) As we opened the door to the office, the K-State purple oozed out. Quite a welcoming site to see pictures of Kansas and Purple Pride slathered all over the walls. Jack, the office director, took our group photo and treated us to an amazing dinner! Yet again a giant spread of food ranging from Peking duck to tofu, vegetables, and fish. In total we have probably tried 25 different dishes today!
